We are currently seeking a Part-Time Activities Assistant to assist in implementing engaging activities for our residents in all levels of care, helping them lead enriching and fulfilling lives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As the Activities Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Resident Engagement: Assist with the planning, coordination, and facilitation of a variety of activities that meet the physical, mental, and social needs of residents in Independent Living, Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, Rehabilitation, and Memory Care.
- Activity Planning: Work with the Activities Director to develop and implement a monthly activities calendar that includes appropriate recreational and therapeutic activities, considering residents' preferences, abilities, and needs.
- Facilitation of Group Activities: Lead small and large group activities such as arts and crafts, games, music therapy, exercise, and social events.
- One-on-One Activities: Provide individualized activities for residents who may require additional support or prefer one-on-one interaction.
- Documentation: Maintain records of resident participation in activities, documenting any special accomplishments, preferences, or needs.
- Transportation: Assist in transporting residents to and from scheduled activities, as well as ensuring that residents' comfort and safety are maintained during transitions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (e.g., nursing, dietary, therapy) to ensure activities complement care plans and residents’ well-being.
- Resident and Family Interaction: Build relationships with residents and families, ensuring they are informed of upcoming events and that their preferences are incorporated into the activity programming.
- Activity Supplies: Ensure activity materials and supplies are organized and ready for use.
- Adherence to Policies: Follow facility policies and procedures, including safety regulations, when conducting activities and interacting with residents.
Education and Certification Requirements (State of Minnesota):
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience working with older adults in a long-term care or healthcare setting is preferred, but not required.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred, but can be obtained after hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, and lift (up to 50 lbs) to assist residents with activities or support mobility.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to assist with arts and crafts, handling activity materials, and setting up spaces for activities.
- Comfortable with Sitting and Standing: Ability to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods during activities.
- Assistance with Residents: Ability to assist residents in moving between areas, including helping with transportation to activities, as needed.
- Environment: Ability to work in environments that may have some exposure to medical equipment, personal care items, and cleaning chemicals.
