Position Summary: The Resident Assistant (RA) provides high-quality, person-centered care and support to residents living at GlenOaks Senior Living Campus. Under the direction of licensed nursing staff, the RA assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), promotes independence, ensures safety, and upholds the dignity and privacy of each individual. This role plays a vital part in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment while adhering to state of Minnesota regulations for assisted living facilities.
Essential Functions:
Resident Care & Services
- Assist residents with ADLs, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, ambulation, and transfers, following individualized care plans.
- Support residents with meal preparation, feeding assistance, and hydration as needed.
- Encourage and promote resident independence, choice, and participation in daily life activities.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance quality of life.
Compliance & Safety:
- Follow all infection control, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain compliance with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) regulations for Assisted Living.
- Protect resident rights, privacy, and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
- Report changes in resident condition promptly to nursing staff.
Documentation & Communication:
- Accurately document care provided in the electronic health record (EHR) or paper chart per facility policy.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, administration, residents, and families.
- Participate in shift reports and care conferences as requested.
Team & Community Support:
- Assist with housekeeping tasks such as laundry, room tidying, and maintaining a clean living environment.
- Collaborate with the care team to support residents’ physical, social, and emotional needs.
- Actively contribute to a positive workplace culture under GlenOaks’ new administration.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and lift.
- Must be able to safely lift, push, pull, and transfer up to 50 pounds independently.
- Frequent movement between resident rooms and community areas.
- Exposure to residents with varying physical and cognitive conditions.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
Education & Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
- Background study clearance through the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in assisted living, long-term care, or healthcare support role.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Compassionate and respectful approach to working with older adults.
